Knowing God through His Word

God's Word shows us His character and will. We must be careful not to make God in our own image, based on our experiences in life or man's opinion. Prayer is to be based on revelation of the character and will of God through His Word.
Have you noticed that our impressions of God can be shaped or influenced by our experiences in life? I know that when I first became a Christian, it was difficult for me to accept that it is God's will to heal the sick. My experience did not match up with God's Word and so I based my opinion on what I had seen. I remember having rather heated discussions with other Christians about this subject. They believed in God's will to heal and trusted His Word. I wanted proof! I have since changed my opinion (thank God) and have chosen to believe God's Word and not my experiences.
Prayer is strong and effective when we pray based on the revelation of God's Word.
